Cris Altamirano currently serves as the Acting Director of the Early College Program at Hudson County Community College, overseeing partnerships and programming across Hudson County and Essex County's high school pathways. In this role, he leads the development and expansion of academic pathways that provide high school students with access to college-level coursework, dual enrollment opportunities, certificates and associate degree programs.
Cris works closely with high school administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, and guardians to support enrollment, academic planning, and program implementation. He also collaborates with the Hudson County Schools of Technology and other partner districts to create opportunities that allow students to earn college credits while completing their high school education.
His professional experience spans higher education administration and instruction, including roles in New Student Orientation, Academic Advisement, Disability and Accessibility Services, and Early College/Dual Enrollment programs. Prior to his current position, Cris served as Interim Director of the Office of Disability Services at Rutgers University–Newark and as Associate Dean overseeing a branch campus of Essex County College. An educator at heart, Cris has taught both undergraduate and graduate-level courses at HCCC and other institutions. He is a proud alumnus of Rutgers University, having earned degrees from each of its regional campuses. His doctoral dissertation examined graph comprehension among students in developmental mathematics through a sociocultural learning framework.
